Scandals

In the world today, when one person makes a bad choice, it affects a lot of different people. I think that today we have more opportunities to make scandals because things that were once kept hidden are now out in the open more. What used to be thought of as taboo might not be as taboo any longer. This isn’t a good thing because now more people are getting into bad trouble. What is our world coming to?
Not that long ago, a lot of people made it a point to keep there secrets, well secret! Now for some reason the world has decided that it is ok to share some of the things you would have otherwise kept hidden. More people are coming ‘out of the closet’, telling about their forbidden pasts, or confessing to dark secrets and crimes. Because of that reason, people have better opportunities to develop and make up scandals. We need to be careful about the people we tell our secrets to!
In our new generation, a lot more different things are accepted by people and our culture. Not far back in time, some of the widespread ideas that we know weren’t talked about or even appropriate to talk about. But now, we talk about pretty much anything without a second thought. People are more likely to be themselves now because they have a better chance of being accepted into society. The secret lives of people are now right out in the open. Affairs are more heard of, everyone knows about each others ‘sexual preference’, and people are just blunter!
Since everyone knows about each other’s business, there is a better chance that a rumor will begin about people. If these rumors get far enough along without being stopped, the little ‘rumor’ might become a full fledged scandal! Even if these scandals aren’t terribly bad, they could still do more damage than you intended or know about. Some scandals aren’t started by others but by the people involved. If they are involved in a scandal and different people find out, the scandals grow and evolve into things that are much worse than they intended them to be.
Scandals are all around us whether we like it or not. We have more opportunities to create new scandals because more secrets are being shared. The things that were once taboo are no longer as taboo as they were a while ago. None of this is good because people who are involved in the scandal, and even some who aren’t are getting into trouble, that they don’t deserve. We need to go back to the good old days where we were all just a little more sensitive towards each other’s problems. Let’s all try to respect everyone’s private lives!
